This file is a set of plugs designed to both replace the buffer bumper itself (PETG/TPU) as well as give you the option to turn a standard buffer weight into an adjustable buffer weight.

For the buffer bumper only: All you need do is press them in, and then take a drill bit corresponding to the tension pin/etc and drill a hole using the holes already in the aluminum buffer body to allow the tension pin you already have to hold it in place. It's best to drill halfway through each side so they connect in the middle.

For the adjustable weight buffer plug: drill (1/2") and chamfer the front end of your buffer. The easiest way to do this is use the tube of the buffer body as a drill guide and drill all the way through the entire buffer body with it clamped in a soft vice. It can be drilled from the front, but in that case care should be taken to find the center. If you have a lathe, that's the best case.

As with the buffer bumper, you need to drill a hole(s) perpendicular to the length of the buffer body so that it can be pinned in place with grub/set screws or a tension pin. This will be at the front (wide) end.

There is a different model in the file for each of those two options. The tension pins runs all the way through, and would obscure the central hole used to fill the weight--so it should be fairly obvious which is which.

Drill according to whatever size set screw(s)/tension pin you're going to use with the plug according to your preference, and then tap the threads in the aluminum.

In a pinch you can just make the threads with the set screw.

The set screw(s) should be seated in far enough that there's no chance it will wear against the inside of your buffer tube. Seat with loctite or vibratite.

The small hole (4.8mm) at the front end of the adjustable buffer plug that will eventually accommodate a set screw that can be removed so that small lead shot can be poured in or out to change the buffer weight. It is printed slightly undersized and may need to be drilled according to whether you will be using 1/4-20 or 1/4-28 set screws.

If you need to drill this out, it's easiest to do after it's already been pinned in place.

If there's any confusion, refer to photos of the odinworks adjustable buffer weight for context.
